Vintage Embroidery Patterns!

In recent months I have acquired a small but growing collection of vintage patterns. I haven’t experimented with them yet, but here are some fun hot iron transfer embroidery patterns I came across. They were separated from their envelopes in most cases, so I still have to sort through and see which sets are complete. I likely won’t be using the patterns via iron on – but tracing them onto some linen I have in the stash for tea towels and maybe some napkins for those dinner parties we keep planning to have…

In my brief research of the history of these patterns, it seems much of their history has been lost since the company that manufactured them went out of buisness. What I did learn is that they were primarily made in the 1940s and 1950s – this to some degree is evident from the envelope art and motifs. And the use of the word gay in reference to baskets of the wicker variety…

The back of this envelope indicates that these patterns were meant to be transferred and used as is, unlike the others which use the pattern as a template for embroidery or appliqué.
